Improper labeling; wrong tube; gross hemolysis; insufficient volume

Interpretation

Granulocytes migrate toward, phagocytize, and kill bacteria and fungi.

Test Consists

ABO, Rh, Antibody Screen (Indirect Coombs), and Crossmatch. Granulocyte Pheresis usually contain many leukocytes and platelets along with 20 – 50 mL of red blood cells. A granulocyte pheresis contains approximately >1.0 × 1010 granulocytes, and expires in 24 hours. Due to the expiration of the product, transmissible disease testing cannot be performed. A transfusion risk form must be signed before product can be released.

Turn Around Time

24 – 48 hours for blood center to obtain product, 1 hour for crossmatch.
