Interpretation

Negative results indicate patients with undetecable varicella IgG. This could mean no presence of IgG antibodies, or a current primary infection which is in the early stage, and therefore IgG has not yet been produced.  In this case, it would be necessary to perform an assay for varicella IgM antibodies. Positive results indicate past infection, a current infection, or vaccination against VZV. Equivocal indicates a borderline result.
