Interpretative Information

Detection of SSA antibodies is potentially significant for the clinical diagnosis of SLE (prevalence 40-50%) and Sjogren's Syndrome (prevalence 60-75%). They have also been reported to occur in subacute cutaneous LE, neonatal LE, or vasculitis.

A definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based on the results of a single diagnostic method, but should only be made by the physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated. This assay has a specificity of 96.3% and a sensitivity of 97.8%.
