Summary

Useful for diagnosis of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in cases of unexplained diarrhea, steatorrhea, flatulence, upper abdominal pain, and food intolerances. Also used in monitoring of exocrine pancreatic function in cystic fibrosis, diabetes mellitus, or chronic pancreatitis

 

 

Storage and Transport

Stool is stable at room temperature for up to 8 hours, refrigerated at 2-8° C for 7 days, and frozen at -20° C for 12 months.

Reference Values

≥ 200 ug/g : Normal

100-199 ug/g: Mild to Moderate Insufficiency

<100 ug/g: Severe Insufficiency

Causes for Rejection

Insufficient quantity, stool too hard to process, specimen not stored at correct temperature, leaked specimen
