Specimen Requirements

Nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS) should be collected according to standard technique and immediately placed in viral transport media (Remel MicroTest M4RT Viral Transport tube) provided by the Microbiology Lab.

Storage and Transport

Specimens in viral transport media should be tested as soon as possible. Specimens may be held at room temperature (18-30oC) for up to 4 hours.

Samples not provided in viral transport tube.
