Interpretative Information

Mitochondrial antibodies are often present in individuals with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. Individuals who are positive for these antibodies but have no signs of cholestasis and/or liver information are likely to develop Primary Biliary Cirrhosis in the future.

A definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based on the results of a single diagnostic method, but should only be made by the physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated. This assay has a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 93.3%.
