Specimen Requirements
Minimum 1.5 mL blood in gold top tube preferred. Red top tube is acceptable.
Serum should be separated as soon as possible. Within 48 hours of collection, serum should be refrigerated at 2-8° C. If testing will take place >48 hours after collection, serum should then be frozen <-20° C.
Causes for Rejection
Wrong tube, insufficient quantity, grossly hemolyzed, grossly lipemic

Interpretative Information
Bacterial contamination will affect results of this test. Do not perform on patients who are septic.
The presence of circulating insulin autoantibodies will affect the results of this test.
