Specimen Requirements

It is preferred to fill tube to the required fill line.

Minimun volume: 1mL whole blood

Storage and Transport

Store sample at room temperature for immediate transport and analysis. 

If transport or testing is delayed, plasma can be seperated and stored at 2-8ᵒ C for up to 24 hours. If the analysis cannot be done within 24 hours, the sample should be stored frozen at -20ᵒ C or below for up 60days.

Note: Repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided.

Reportable Range: 1.0 – 2,000.0pg/mL

Reference Range: 10.0 – 65.0pg/mL

Interpretation

Intact PTH is an important marker to diagnose the diseases of the parathyroid gland and kidney.  For example, in hyperparathyroidism and secondary hyperparathyroidism PTH is used to judge success or failure of surgery in the removal of malignant parathyroid gland, and to monitor postoperative recovery.

Causes for Rejection

  • Gross hemolysis.
  • Gross lipemia.
  • Incorrect specimen type.
  • Specimen from patients who have received preparations of goat polyclonal antibodies.
