Specimen Requirements

Fluid: 3 mL (0.5 mL minimum) in sterile specimen container, refrigerated

Swab or Tissue: place in 3 mL viral transport media, refrigerated

Causes for Rejection

Insufficient quantity; improper labeling; improper collection; improper or delayed transport; calcium alginate swab, wood swab, or eswab; frozen specimen; specimen at room temperature >2 hours
