Storage and Transport

Collection materials are provided by the Microbiology Laboratory. Do not substitute collection materials. M4-RT media should be immediately transported to the laboratory on wet ice.

Insufficient quantity; improper labeling; improper collection; improper or delayed transport

No virus isolated.

Test Consists

UPPER RESPIRATORY (inc throat): Cell culture isolation of the following viruses: Influenza A, Influenza B, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza virus type 1, Parainfluenza virus type 2, Parainfluenza virus type 3, and HSV. Enterovirus is added on esophageal specimens.

LOWER RESPIRATORY (BAL): Cell culture isolation of the following viruses: Influenza A, Influenza B, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza virus type 1, Parainfluenza virus type 2, Parainfluenza virus type 3, CMV and HSV.
