Interpretative Information
Centromere antibodies are found in 70-90% of patients with CREST Syndrome,a limited form of scleroderma with a comparatively favorable prognosis. They may also occur in Raynaud's phenomenon and primary biliary cirrhosis.
A definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based on the results of a single diagnostic method, but should only be made by the physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated. This assay has a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 98.1%.
