Specimen Requirements

Obtain tubes from Blood Bank. Samples require Name, MRN, date and phlebotomist initials/Cerner ID.

Storage and Transport

Send samples to Blood Bank.

Blood Bank sends samples to Reference Laboratory for testing.

Causes for Rejection

Improper labeling; wrong tube; gross hemolysis; insufficient volume

Interpretation

The Transplanting Physician will be notified of any Positive Transmissible Disease testing on donor.

Methodology

Bone Marrow transplant donors must have the following testing performed within 30 days of donation:

Anti-HIV 1/2, HIV 1/2 Nucleic Acid Test, HbcAb, Anti-HCV, Anti-HTLV I/II, West Nile Virus (WNV) NAT, Treponema pallidum (syphilis), Chagas, Cytomegalovirus (unless previously documented to be positive)
