Interpretation
Conditions associated with decreased vitamin B12 include pernicious anemia, hypochlorhydria, disorders of intestinal absorption, inflammatory bowel disease, prior gastric surgery, normal near term pregnancy, vegetarianism, oral contraception and pancreatic deficiency. Disorders associated with elevated serum B12 levels include renal failure, liver disease and myeloproliferative diseases.
