Catalog ID ANA Screen Antinuclear Antibodies

Important Note

***If the ANA is positive, it will automatically reflex ENA testing.

***If the ANA is suggestive of mitochondrial staining, a M2 Antibody will automatically reflex.

***If the ANA staining pattern is homozygous & speckled, and the reflexed ENA testing is negative, a DFS70 Antibody will automatically be reflexed.

CPOE Test Name

ANA, ANA Screen

Synonyms

ANA, ANA Screen

Specimen Type

Serum

Specimen Requirements

FULL Gold Top serum separator tube (ensures sufficient specimen for reflexes)

Storage and Transport

Serum may be stored at 2-10°C up to one week. If testing is further delayed, serum should be stored frozen at -20° C or lower.

Reference Range

Negative

Interpretation

The ANA screen is performed at a titer of 1:40. If no ANA pattern is present, it is reported as ANA negative <1:40. If the ANA screen is positive, additional titers will be performed. The ANA pattern(s) will be reported with the titer endpoint. The highest titer this lab performs is 1:640.

Turn Around Time

Methodology

Indirect fluorescent antibody test for the semi-quantitative detection fo ANA in human serum. This test system uses transfected mitotic human epitheliod cells (Hep-2). HEp-2 cells with mitotic figures aid in differential pattern recognition. HEp-2 cells also allow specific identification of autoantibodies to the SSA/Ro antigen.
